Beni Kujaku

Climb to the second floor of a building on Golden Gai's 5th Street, and you'll find two doors in a narrow hallway—百千鳥 (Momochidori) on the right, and Beni Kujaku on the left. Both are sister bars run by the same owner, with Beni Kujaku opening in September 2022. The name is borrowed from a local mahjong yakuman hand requiring only red tiles—a fitting nod to a game-night intimacy. Bartender "Shin" holds down the counter from 8 PM until around 4 AM, and a cat has been known to make an appearance from time to time. The journey there—up a creaky wooden staircase in a classic Golden Gai building—is part of the experience itself. It's a spot for mahjong enthusiasts, confirmed night owls, or anyone curious about what lies behind an unmarked door. Come late, drink quietly, and see where the night takes you.
