ABOUT THIS BAR

A veteran bar run by Bunmei Tobayama, director of theater troupe Tubaki-gumi. Well known as a cultural gathering place for actors and film and theater professionals. Unusually spacious for Golden Gai at around 25 seats. Beef sinew curry and other lunch options draw a daytime crowd too.

ABOUT SHINJUKU GOLDEN GAI

Shinjuku Golden Gai is Tokyo's most iconic bar district — 295+ unique bars packed into six narrow alleys in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. A 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station East Exit, next to Hanazono Shrine. Featured in the Michelin Green Guide, it has been a cultural institution since the 1950s.
