Located at the entrance of G2 alley in Shinjuku Golden Gai, ADIEU L'AMI — known simply as "ami" — is a family-run bar that has been passed down through three generations since its founding in 1975. The unpretentious warmth at its core is symbolized by the Suntory Kaku whisky that the founding grandmother adored. After her passing in 2012, her daughter took over as the second-generation owner, and the third generation has since joined the team as well. The founding philosophy — "welcoming everyone equally, joyfully, like family" — has never wavered in 50 years, and on any given night, regulars and first-timers of all nationalities sit side by side at the same counter. A standout tradition: every Friday, the second-generation mama serves her homemade otoshi (complimentary appetizer). Even solo first-timers to Golden Gai will find conversation comes naturally here.
